And while payment infrastructure may sound like a dull topic, it's where cutting edge technology, monetary policy and geopolitical arm wrestling all come together. Central banks greatly upped their research in their own digital currency in reaction to Facebook's plans for its own, called Libra. The question remains: What problem are they trying to solve?
